The hormones that are in the hormones listed in the links below are not the same hormones found in a generic. If your medical provider prescribes a prescription for sex hormone products, the product will have an "estrogen" or "progestin" label. The label for a generic sex hormone product can be very different from the label for a prescription sex hormone. There is no way to tell which one has the "estrogen" label and which one does not. Many products can only be used by the person to whom they are prescribed. Sex hormone products can be used by you or by someone else who is not your medical care provider. Some of the different brands of birth control pills sold in the United States have different amounts of estrogen and different amounts of progestin. The amount of estrogen in the products that you might buy for your own use will depend on how much progestin your doctor has given you. Many people who don't have health insurance are reluctant to pay for these types of products. This makes it difficult to know what the effects are.
